The Hamilton Philomela Chapter #294 celebrated its 50th Anniversary On Sunday November 8, 2009. With an afternoon event of “Grecian Wine and Meze” held at Hamilton’s unique landmark Barangas on the Beach at 3pm.

Dimitri (Guitar) and Michali (Bouzouki) entertained our guests with beautiful melodies and members of the Hamilton Hellenic Traditional Dance Group delighted everyone with a couple of their performances.

The event was very well attended by local dignitaries, The Honourable Sophia Aggelonitis, Hamilton Mountain MPP, Bob Bratina, Ward 2 Hamilton City Councillor,  the Greek Communities Presidents and Priests of both our churches.

Many guests and AHEPA Family dignitaries travelled from London, Toronto, and Brampton and as far as Denver, Colorado to honour us with their presence.  Among them Sister Anthea Simeonidis first President of Philomela Chapter, Sister Annie Valkanas District #23 Governor of the Daughters of Penelope, Brother Andy Tzemis District #23 Governor of AHEPA and Brother Nick Aroutzidis AHEPA Canadian President.

During our celebrations Sister Vera Papadopoulos was honoured for her 50 years of dedication and contributions to the Philomela Chapter of the Daughters of Penelope and the Greek Community and the Hamilton Community at large.

In addition Sister Eleni Inglis Past Canadian President of the Daughters of Penelope was presented with a certificate of Merit by Brother Nick Aroutzidis AHEPA Canadian President in recognition of her devoted service and unselfish contributions to the advancement of the programs of the Daughters of Penelope in Canada and the Canadian AHEPA Family Charitable Foundation.

All past and present members of Philomela Chapter were acknowledged and recognized with a certificate of merit for their contributions to the Philomela Chapter of the Daughters of Penelope.

Our chapter has supported many charitable causes in the Greater Hamilton and Halton community, the Greek Community of Hamilton, and regional scholarship programs.
We are very proud of our devouted members who throughout the past 50 years have dedicated themselves to support many worthy causes and fulfilled the ideals and goals of our noble organization.
