On Saturday October 15, 2011, 350 people congregated at the majestic ballroom of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel for the first annual CEGA Awards. CEGA, which stands for Celebrate Excellence in Greek Achievement, was conceived within the inspiration of honouring top achievement by persons of Greek decent. The awards, which were hosted by AHEPA Toronto, honour preeminent individuals, who have excelled in their respective fields, strive for excellence and serve as role models within and beyond the Hellenic community.

The AHEPA District #26 family gathered with friends and continued the tradition of recognizing deserving students at the twenty-third Annual AHEPA District #26 Family Christmas Dinner and Scholarship Presentation. The AHEPA District #26 officers would like to thank the many contributors who make this event possible.

The Right Honorable Stephen Harper, prime minister of Canada, has invited AHEPA Canadian President Nick Aroutzidis to participate on his official delegation to theHellenic Republic on May 28 and 29, 2011, announced Supreme President Nicholas A.
Karacostas. Aroutzidis has accepted Prime Minister Harper’s invitation.

George Vassilas Elected AHEPA President of Canada

george vassilasMIAMI BEACH - The delegates of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), a leading association for the Hellenes in North America, elected George Vassilas supreme president of Canada at its 89th Annual Supreme Convention in Miami Beach, Fla. Mr. Vassilas ran unopposed in elections that were held Saturday, July 23, 2011. They were formally installed as supreme president along with the Supreme Lodge on Saturday.

MONTREAL AHEPA FAMILY FULFILS $250,000 PLEDGE TO SHRINERS HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN AND SHRINERS NAME SCHOOL AFTER AHEPA

MONTREAL, QUE – The Montreal AHEPA Family is proud to announce that it has fulfilled its six-year drive to raise $250,000 for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal. The balance of $58,000 that helped reach this goal was raised at the 12th Annual St-Valentine’s Charitable Ball that took place on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Palace Reception Hall in Laval. Over the past twelve years the St-Valentine’s Ball has raised $400,000 for children’s causes. Other institutions that have been supported in the past include the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the St-Justine Hospital, the Giant Steps Foundation and the Children’s Wish Foundation.
