Η τραγωδία του Αϊτινού λαού μας συγκλονίζει όλους! Ιδιαίτερα, όμως, οι
Έλληνες έχουμε ένα χρέος παραπάνω...

Η μικρή και φτωχή αυτή χώρα είναι η ΠΡΩΤΗ που αναγνώρισε την Ελληνική
Επανάσταση του 1821 δια του Προέδρου της Μπουαγιέ (Jean Pierre Boyer):

«Το πρώτο κράτος που αναγνώρισε την ελληνική επανάσταση επίσημα ήταν η
Αϊτή. Ο Boyer έστειλε στις 15.01.1822 έγγραφο στην ελληνική επιτροπή του
Παρισιού απαντώντας στην αίτηση των Κοραή, Πίκκολου και Βογορίδη, στο
οποίο ανάγγελλε την αναγνώριση της ελληνικής προσωρινής διοίκησης και
ευχόταν την νίκη της επανάστασης». (Τάσος Βουρνάς, Ιστορία της Νεώτερης
Ελλάδας, Αθήνα, εκδ. Τολίδης, σελ. 94.)

Μόλις που είχε τελειώσει τον δικό της απελευθερωτικό πόλεμο εναντίον των
Γάλλων αποικιοκρατών, και αν και κατεστραμμένη οικονομικά, έστειλε στο
Παρίσι, στον Αδαμάντιο Κοραή, 25 τόνους καφέ για να πωληθούν, και να
αγορασθούν όπλα για τον δικό μας αγώνα.

Επίσης, έστειλε 100 εθελοντές, στρατιώτες, να πολεμήσουν στο πλευρό των
Ελλήνων, αν και δεν έφτασαν ποτέ, αφού πιθανόν σφαγιάστηκαν από Γάλλους.

Πόσοι Έλληνες τα γνωρίζουμε αυτά η τα θυμόμαστε; Ας τους θυμηθούμε
τουλάχιστον τώρα!

The current tragedy of the Haitian people has shocked the world.
However, people of Hellenic descent need to remember much more...

This small and poor country was the FIRST to recognize the Hellenic
Uprising of 1821 through its President, Jean Pierre Boyer.

"The first country which recognized the Hellenic Uprising was Haiti. On
15.01.1822, Boyer sent a document to the Paris Hellenic Committee
responding to the petition by Koraes, Pikkolos and Vogoridis, stating
that the tentative Hellenic Government was recognized and wishing for
the success of the revolution". (Tasos Vournas, "History of Modern
Greece", Athens, Tolidis Publishers, p. 94).

Haiti had just finished its own war of independence against colonial
France. Although in financial ruins, it sent to Adamantios Koraes in
Paris twenty-five tons of coffee. The proceeds from the sale were to be
used for the purchase of arms for our own struggle.

In addition, it sent 100 volunteer soldiers to fight on the side of the
Greeks. These soldiers never arrived, as they were probably slaughtered
by the French.

How many Greeks know or remember all this? Let us at least remember the
Haitian people now!
